The STI slide stop is machined 4140 carbon steel heat treated to 38 -42 Rockwell hardness, creating a very precise slide stop.
Availible in 45ACP Hard Chrome only.
This is to prevent a round in the magazine from prematurely activating the slide stop when the follower of the magazine should be activating the slide stop.
